July Birthstone - Ruby

July 24th 2019 by Jessica Mar

Come take a closer look at Rubies as we enter the power month of July.

Belonging to the corundum family alongside Sapphire, rubies are best known as a gem of nobility and is said to bring strength, courage and good fortune to its wearer during the month of July.

In the corundum family sapphires can be found in all colours….EXCEPT RED, This Royal gemstone is granted its own title purely because of its crystal structure, colour and geology. The most desirable “Burmese Ruby” or “Pigeon’s Blood Ruby” is famous for its exceptional deep red colouring and slightly bluish hue. Although flawless Rubies from Burma rarely exceed several carats they are, to this day, the finest around.

“The glowing ruby shall adorn,

Those who in July are born;

Then they'll be exempt and free

From love's doubts and anxiety”

DO add this fiery gemstone to warm up your winter wardrobe

DON’T wear your rubies while cleaning the house or performing heavy lifting such as weights at the gym or moving boxes/furniture. Yes, Ruby sits at a 9 on the hardness scale but a numinous about of hard materials and accidental knocks will damage and scratch your gemstone making it dull or even crack it.
