If you are one of the special people to be born in September, your birthstone is a favourite amongst the Royals – the Sapphire.
When you hear sapphire jewellery you think Princess Diana and the Duchess of Cambridge herself, Kate Middleton. That iconic 12ct Oval Ceylon Sapphire surrounded by a halo of dazzling diamonds has been a royal focus point since it first graced the fingers of the Princess of Wales back in 1981.
40 years on and it is still looking fabulous following Kate’s Motherhood Journey.
The most desired sapphire colour must be the Royal Blue ‘Ceylon’ Sapphire with most people assuming that, that is the only colour sapphires are found in. Well we have news for you; Sapphires are available in a palette of spectacular colours from violets to cosmopolitan pinks to suit everyone’s desires.
Physical Properties
Belonging to the Corundum family along with ruby, corundum in its pure form is completely colourless; the colour is a result of transition elements present at the time of its formation. For example because of Australia’s iron rich earth, we produce a majority of the world’s dark blue, blue-black natural sapphires.
